Calling all Windows 7 users: Windows is officially going to stop support for the Windows 7 operating system in January of 2020.
If you are a Windows 7 user, here are some issues that you’re going to run into:
Windows 7 has been out since 2008. Every single day, new technology is coming up, new security breaches, and software bugs. Updates that have happened within Windows 7 throughout the years has been to fix those problems for you, patch up the vulnerabilities that come up. When Microsoft says that they are going to end support for Windows 7, what they mean is that those security updates are not going to happen anymore.
Once Microsoft ends these updates, all the third-party companies that are in business with Microsoft follow suit. To keep up business, these companies need to create new technology for Microsoft to use for their latest computers. New hardware that comes out will no longer support the architecture of Windows 7. As well as that, big companies like Google or Firefox will slowly stop supporting Windows 7 operating systems. Once Microsoft stops its support, these hardware companies and software companies will slowly stop their support as well.
There is still a chance that you will be able to use your normal programs well into the future, even after January 2020. The danger is that without these companies’ support, you are leaving yourself extremely vulnerable to threats on the web. Your operating system and your web browsers will not be able to protect you anymore from attacks.
What it boils down to is that if you continue to use Windows 7 instead of updating your system, you are going to be extremely vulnerable to attacks and you will not be able to update your hardware or drivers in the future. Try to upgrade to Windows 10 as soon as you can if you are a user of Windows 7, and if you can’t just yet, then expect to run into these issues throughout the year if you continue on that operating system.
